(Term 1 Wk 8, 23/2 - 27/2)

Week 8, as the title suggests, has been a week of revision. I hope you have, and are doing revision. The class tests next week will be a good opportunity to see how much you have learnt so far.

Feeling stressed? Well, it is normal. Stress exists in our lives every now and then. We have to learn to manage it. Like I have said before, the class tests will always be there, whether you feel stressed or fearful of it. With this situation, you have the options - face it or fear it. I believe you know the better choice. Anyway, at P6 level, tests are so 'norm' to you. Study well and be prepared for it.

Brain freeze from studying? Take a break. Smile.

Weekend practices.

1. EL - Vocab Bklet A, Q1 - 41
2. EL - Grammar Bklet pg 2
3. EL - Spelling Bk Correction and Parent's Signature
4. MA - Review A
5. SCI - PSLE Bklet Q8 (p83), Q13 (88), Q14 (89), Q20 (97)

I can only put up the answer key for the Grammar Bklet tomorrow as I do not have the Vocab Bklet with me (left it in school).

All the best.

(Term 1 Wk 7, 16/2 - 20/2)

Hi everyone!

Another week passed by again. Well, it was a memorable week nonetheless. I believe the highlight of the week has to be the learning trip to the Science Centre (6RS form class) to learn about 'Forces'. I want to try a little different in the posting this time round - that is to show more pictures rather than words. Of course, I will still recap the key learning points as well as the work for the weekend. So here we go!

For EL, there were the practices of Present Tense (Base form, Third Person Singular), 'to-infinitive', Synthesis and Transformation, and group reading on the passage of 'Priscilla and I'. I am happy to say that you are coping fine. So, do not forget these learnings.

Ratio
is always tied with Fraction. Therefore, remember the Fraction concepts - 4 operations involving fractions. They will come in handy when you are doing Ratio. You must also understand how the questions for Fraction and Ratio are phrased so that you can apply the concepts appropriately.

Energy, energy, energy! Forces, forces, forces! Alright less words... pictures coming up!

Work for the weekend
;

1. EL - Spelling Bk: Correction and Parent's Signature
2. EL - Journal: How I Handle Stress
3. EL - Practice WS 2
4. MA - TB Let's Practice! 5a, Q1-4, p107-108
5. SCI - Energy WS 2 (Due on Wed)

Ok ok. Pictures are up next.

Getting ready before the trip.

We had arrived!

The girls get to work instantly!

The boys work differently.

(ZJ, with hammer) Using all his might to strike it ...
(MT, beside ZJ) "What force does he apply?"

What a high score*!

(*ok, the picture has been edited)

Electric Man -
Brilliant electric spark passing through the figure
(well... YL is not the electric man)

Gravitram... how does it work?
Let's ask the owner ...

Hi Sir! How does the gravitram work?
What force is used?

Discover your weight at different planets!
(Why do we weigh differently at different planets?)
(Mass is not weight?)

What makes the ball bounce?

Lastly ...

Who scared our Whiteboard Master?

Alright, work well and rest well. Bye.

(Term 1 Wk 6, 9/2 - 13/2)

Hi-lo...

As the title suggests, Total Defence (TD) was one of the highlights in week 6. As a Singaporean, we must defend our homeland in whatever way we can. We must contribute to the society and help one another. We may not feel the pain our forefathers had experienced. However, we must, the very least, understand that it has not been a easy task for Singapore to become what it is now (and future). As a result, we will play a part in the 'Total Defence' of Singapore.

Besides having the TD Day, we also continued with our learning. For EL, we had practices in Synthesis & Transformation. One strategy was shared - identify the question on 'Direct to Indirect Speech' and work on it first. We will be working on this strategy in future practices and keep it in mind. We had also visited the Singapore Zoological Gardens (well...literally). Through the exchange of letters found in TB, we had found out more about the zoo (especially those rarely seen animals). If you have time, you can visit the homepage of the zoo to look for more information (and pics!). In addition, we've gone back to the basics in Grammar - understanding what a sentence is, structure of a sentence and 'verb'. Work on the practices in the Grammar Book (Green) for reinforcement.

As for Mathematics, you must remember the steps in solving the division of a whole number by a fraction. (Both happening at the same time - change the operation to 'multiplication' and invert the divisor) As for the word problems, read the questions thoroughly and try for the solution. Try hard. Don't give up too easily. Take a break and come back to the question, you may have a better understanding of the question. We'll 'clear' Fraction first before going to Ratio. Stay tuned.

Once again, the movement of my fingers on the keyboard (as I typed this post) is one of the many examples that shows the use of kinetic energy. Can you list another two examples that illustrate the application of kinetic energy in our daily lives? I believe you can. Energy is important to our daily lives that we need it every now and then. Don't forget the different forms of energy and be able to cite its use, examples of application, and (if any) the factor influencing the energy. Eg. the amount of gravitational potential energy is determined by the mass of the object and the height of the object from the ground. Keep thinking... so that your mind is constantly applying kinetic energy. :>

Art lessons - let your creativity grows through simple lines and shapes. Your art pieces (6RS and 6RP) are good and in the coming lessons, you can only improve further. Keep it up!

Events coming up? Science Centre learning trip and Health Checkup. Be prepared.

Work? Definitely. Check it out.

1. EL - Journal: 'My Precious Moments'
2. EL - Grammar Bk (Green): Learn the base form and 3rd Person tense (p319-320)
3. MA - (Group 1) Pract 3
4. SCI - (Group 1) Read Chp 3 Forces

Work hard, rest well. See you on Monday!

(Term 1 Wk 5, 2/2 - 6/2)

Good day everyone!

Blow wind blow! Blow those who can remember the name of all the six solids! Can you do it? Well, I hope you can remember the name of the solids, the number of faces they can have, as well as the shapes of the faces. These are the concepts taught in Nets (MA). Blow wind blow was the activity that we had during lessons to help you recall the properties of each solid and react to the instructions given by the game master (that's me!). I believe you had enjoyed the activity and if we have time, we can play it again. Say hi to the solids below! (ps: there's a quiz at the end of this post on Nets)
Blow wind blow! Blow who?

As for EL, we had read the passage on the imaginative world where dinosaurs and humans came together. We know it's not possible now but well, it is an imaginative world after all. We also did Listening Comprehension, Synthesis & Transformation ... ... and also a composition writing. It was a busy week, don't you think?

As my hands rest on the keyboard (potential energy), I slowly move the fingers (kinetic energy) and begin typing this post. Hmm, I've just shown you an example on the conversion of energy. Bear in mind that energy is not created but instead, it can be stored, used up or converted. Can you recall the different types of energy?
Coming up soon: Health Check and Science Centre Visit. Remember to get the forms sign and submit when school reopens.

Here's the work for the wkend;

1. EL - Journal on "How do I make others happy?"
2. EL - PSLE Bklet pg14, 19-20.
3. MA - TB Review A Q 1 -26
4. SCI - JB: Identify 2 home electrical appliances and show their energy conversion equations.

Before you get back to work/rest/play, here's a little quiz for you.

Identify the solids shown below!

(Term 1 Wk 4, 28/1 - 30/1)

Hi all!

Week 4 has been a very short week in terms of school days. Why? This was because Monday and Tuesday were public holidays - Chinese New Year! I hope you are enjoying/ have enjoyed this joyful festival. Anyway, lessons resumed on Wednesday and we were back to business.

For EL, you had taken the Spelling activity and we had gone on to World of Imagination (Chapter 2). We had also covered the use of demonstrative pronouns - this/these, that/those. I hope you can use the demonstrative pronouns appropriately.

Angles of Geometric Figures was not a new topic. Everyone must remember all the concepts/angle properties that were taught under this topic. Remember not to commit mistakes such as 'wrong expression' and 'missing units'. The topic 'Nets' was introduced on Friday. Observe your surroundings and identify objects that go with the shapes of 'Cube', 'Cuboid', 'Prism', 'Pyramid', 'Cylinder' and 'Cone'. (did i miss out any shapes?) Come week 5, you will have a greater understanding of Nets.

Papaya plant has poisonous parts? Why does the body of a car be made of metal? These are some questions that we have gone through under the subject Science. Beside the textbook and activity book, the worksheets also offer more examples for you to better understand the topic Classifying Things. Watch out for the new topic 'Energy' in Week 5.

Also note that you have to bring your thermometer for the coming week as we will have the Temperature-taking exercise.

Work for the weekend? Check them out.

1) EL - Topical WS
2) EL - Journal: "What make you happy?"
3) MA - AB Pract 1 'Nets'
4) SCI - Read Chp 2.

See you on Monday then. Have a good rest. ;>
